Still tossing up on Hokkaido v Myoko/Niigata this year?

According to the latest long range forecast from the JMA, Niigata has better chance of:

normal winter temperatures, compared to Hokkaido which is likely to be warm;
normal (eg. high) snowfall and low rainfall, compared to Hokkaido which has a much higher than average chance of high rainfall/precipitation this year.

Both will have excellent seasons. But if you are thinking Hokkaido based on the poor season in Honshu last season you might want to think again!
