Hakuba Snow Report: 7th January, 2012

Can you believe it? There was so much snow they closed Cortina for awhile but it was open again yesterday after more than half a metre of freshies on top. The sun came out for a while and made it a pretty perfect time to be out in Hakuba. There was another 20cm or so of snow last night so the Baron von Dumphausen is making up for some lost time in Hakuba.

The weather is quite cold and generally clear. Not much snow predicted for the next day or two. As of this afternoon official reported base depths in Hakuba resorts were largely left unchanged:

Hakuba 47 196cm
Cortina 260cm
Happo-one 140cm
Tsugaike 210cm
Goryu 215cm
Iwatake 125cm
Norikura 175cm

This is a long weekend in Japan (holiday on Monday) so the slopes are reasonably busy. Still lots of powder stashes to be found on the sides of runs.

Here’s some vision from Thursday courtesy of the Morino crew.
